Floyd
is a small town located in Floyd County in south-central Virginia. As of the 2000 census, the population was 432 residents and it serves as the county seat. The Town of Floyd was originally named Jacksonville due to the fact that the surrounding county was formed during the tenure of President Andrew Jackson. The name was later changed to Floyd. Situated high on the crest of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Floyd has become known as a regional destination for music, especially old-time and bluegrass music. The Friday Night Jamboree, which features local and area Bluegrass, Gospel and Old Time bands, has been held each Friday night in Floyd for many years. Floyd is also home to County Sales, a notable music distribution company founded by David Freeman focusing on old-time, bluegrass and related music. The lush countryside surrounding the town is also a source of inspiration for artists and photographers. It's a friendly place with a mix of people whose families have lived here for generations to recent transplants looking for a peaceful alternative to urban living. Floyd County is known to be one of the most picturesque places along the Blue Ridge Parkway. It's filled with history, outdoor recreational possibilities, unique crafts, music, festivals and much more.

Southwestern Virginia has a four-season climate classified as humid continental.
The state of Virginia has five different climate regions: the Tidewater, Piedmont, Northern Virginia, Western Mountain, and Southwestern Mountain regions. Annual rainfall totals can vary from a sparse thirty-three inches in the Shenandoah Valley to more than sixty inches in the mountains of southwestern Virginia. Thunderstorms may occur anytime of the year, but are most common in summer. Thunderstorms are most frequent in southern Virginia, particularly in the far southwestern section. Heavy snowfalls are usually confined to the more mountainous regions of the state.
