Quinby
is an unincorporated community located in Accomack County on the eastern shore of Virginia. Accomack and Northampton Counties comprise the Eastern Shore of Virginia that is part of the Delmarva Peninsula. The Delmarva Peninsula is occupied by the state of Delaware and portions of Maryland and Virginia. The peninsula is approximately 180 by 60 miles and is bordered by the Chesapeake Bay on the west, the Delaware River, Delaware Bay, and Atlantic Ocean on the east. The northern isthmus of the peninsula is transected by the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal, so the peninsula could be considered to be an island. Several bridges cross the canal, and the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel join the peninsula to mainland Maryland and Virginia, respectively. The bridge-tunnel,at twenty miles long,is the world's longest bridge-tunnel complex. Quinby is just one of several small villages on the peninsula, which is known for its beaches, fishing, and spectacular sunsets and sunrises. Quinby is also near Chincoteague, which is noted for its wild ponies and its beaches, administered by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service through Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge. Other attractions within the wildlife refuge include the Assateague Lighthouse, the Woodland Trail observation deck and the Herbert H Bateman Education & Administration Center The village of Quinby, on the Delmarva Peninsula, is off the beaten track and a perfect beachside getaway.

The Eastern Islands of Virginia , off the Pacific Coast, have summers that are generally hot and humid. Mosquitoes and ticks are abundant from spring through autumn. Insect repellent and/or protective clothing is recommended. It rarely snows on the offshore islands in the winter but the weather is often damp and cold. Sturdy hiking shoes are recommended for long walks in the sand and hard sole water shoes for wading in bay waters. Hurricanes and tropical storms, including those immediately offshore, occur most frequently in early August and September and rarely appear before June or after November. During the month of September, anywhere from 10 to 40 percent of Virginias rainfall comes from tropical storms. Thunderstorms may occur in all months of the year.
