Gore
is a small, unincorporated town located in Frederick County, northern Virginia, near the West Virginia border. It's located off the Northwestern Turnpike, or U.S. Route 50, on Gore Road west of the town of Winchester. The community of Gore is nestled in the Back Creek Valley and serves as the western terminus of the Winchester and Western Railroad. Several historic sites are located in Gore. Sunrise House (or Muse House) was originally started as a simple log cabin and later turned into a multi-room farmhouse with several porches. Two other places of interest are the Willa Cather Birthplace (1850) and Willow Shade (Willa Cather House, 1851.) Willa Cather was an American author who wrote about the American frontier. All three places are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Gore is also near The Cove Campground. The Cove is a privately owned, certified tree farm. It covers about 3,000 acres ranging from one to three thousand feet in altitude and has been developed to provide outdoor recreation for the general public. In addition to 100 campsites, Cove Campground offers swimming, fishing, boating, hiking, a target range, cabins and hot showers. The town of Gore is approximately 80 minutes from Washington D.C.

Northwest Virginia , near the West Virginia border, has a distinct four-season climate. Bryce Mountain is a mountain summit in Shenandoah County in the northwest portion of the state. The mountain climbs to 1,699 feet (517.86 meters) above sea level. As such, it's one of the snowiest regions of the state. Some of the heaviest snowfalls in the United States occur in the Appalachians of West Virginia and the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. The climate consists of moderately cold winters and comfortable cool summers. The normal average temperature is 47.6 degrees F., with summer temperatures averaging 70-80 degrees F. The average annual precipitation is 42 inches.
