Flint-Hill
is an unincorporated community in Rappahannock County in northern Virginia. It's located on Route 22, about two miles east of the border of the Shenandoah National Park, which encompasses part of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia. This national park is long and narrow, with the broad Shenandoah River and valley on the west side, and the rolling hills of the Virginia Piedmont on the east. The most well-known feature of the park is the scenic Skyline Drive, which is a 105-mile road that runs the entire length of the park along the ridge of the mountains. The drive is especially beautiful in the fall when the leaves are changing colors. Almost forty percent of the park's land area has been designated as wilderness and is protected as part of the National Wilderness Preservation System. The highest peak is Hawksbill Mountain at 4,051 feet. Also within the park lies 101 miles of the Appalachia Trail. There are over 500 miles of hiking trails in total within the park. One of the most popular is Old Rag Mountain, which offers a thrilling rock scramble and some of the most breathtaking views in Virginia. Other activities available in Shenandoah National Park include horseback riding, mountain biking, wildlife viewing and birding, camping and backcountry camping. The Skyline Drive is designated as a National Scenic Byway.

North Central Virginia's Piedmont Region has a humid, subtropical climate with four, distinct seasons. Heavy snows are common in the wintertime in the Piedmont region, while the rest of the state may receive only a fraction of snow. Cold air masses arriving from the Blue Ridge Mountains, especially during the winter, can lead to significant snowfall and ice storms from early November to mid-March. Thunderstorms are possible in all months of the year, but more common in the warm, humid days of summer. Although the temperature of Virginia varies according to location, it generally becomes increasingly warmer farther to the south. During the month of September, anywhere from 10 to 40 percent of Virginias rainfall comes from hurricanes and tropical storms.
