Lake-Monticello
is the name of a small, upscale community and lake, located in Fluvanna County in north-central Virginia. The population was 6,852 as of the 2000 census. Lake Monticello was formed by a dam on a short tributary of the nearby Rivanna River. Just minutes from historic Charlottesville, the community of Lake Monticello is a gated, private lake and golf community. You'll find full-time residences around the lake, as well as vacation homes and second homes. It's a lovely area amid the rolling hills of scenic northern Virginia, just eight miles from Thomas Jefferson's beloved home, Monticello. The beautiful 352-acre lake is a recreational boating and fishing lake for residents and their guests only. Lake Monticello also offers a marina, PGA Championship golf course and pro shop, driving range and practice green, tennis, basketball and bocce courts and walking track. There are five sandy beaches at the lake, as well as a swimming pool complex, children's playgrounds and picnic areas. Residents of Lake Monticello also enjoy use of a clubhouse and restaurant. There is full-time security on location with a 24-hour monitored gatehouse entrance. Fire and rescue units are also on site. Lake Monticello is just two hours from Washington D.C.

North Central Virginia's Piedmont Region has a humid, subtropical climate with four, distinct seasons. Heavy snows are common in the wintertime in the Piedmont region, while the rest of the state may receive only a fraction of snow. Cold air masses arriving from the Blue Ridge Mountains, especially during the winter, can lead to significant snowfall and ice storms from early November to mid-March. Thunderstorms are possible in all months of the year, but more common in the warm, humid days of summer. Although the temperature of Virginia varies according to location, it generally becomes increasingly warmer farther to the south. During the month of September, anywhere from 10 to 40 percent of Virginias rainfall comes from hurricanes and tropical storms.
