Warm-Springs
is an unincorporated community located in northwest Virginia. It is the county seat for Bath County and lies along U.S. Route 220 near the center of the county. Bath County is somewhat unusual in Virginia in that it contains no incorporated towns. The community of Warm Springs grew up around the nearby Jefferson Pools. Also called Warm Springs Bathhouses and Warm Springs Pools, the Gentlemen's Pool House is the oldest spa structure in the United States. The octagonal wood building was built in 1761. The spas are naturally fed by a 98 degree F. mineral spring and the men's spa holds 40,000 gallons of constantly flowing water. The Ladies' Pool House was built in 1836, and the buildings have changed very little over the years. Made of wood with a central pool and a roof that is open to the elements, there are also small alcoves around the pool for clothes, as it is common to bathe naked. Famous bathers include Thomas Jefferson, who described the waters in a letter to his daughter, Martha Jefferson Randolph. The site is listed on both the Virginia Landmarks Register and the National Register of Historic Places. You can also opt for a massage after your spa treatment, featuring ginseng roots hand gathered from the area. Other attractions in Warm Springs includes the Bath County Historical Society, Warm Springs Gallery and the Waterwheel Restaurant, which is located inside a converted mill. Other than these landmarks, Warm Springs is primarily residential in character, with many renovated inns and historic homes which serve as accommodation for out-of-town visitors.

Northeast Virginia's climate is classified as mild, mid-latitude, with a subcategory of humid subtropical. Northeast Virginia generally has mild winters with no dry season and hot summers. Hurricanes make the coastal areas of Virginia vulnerable, but it's rare for a major hurricane to threaten the Virginia coast as hurricanes that far north tend to weaken due to cooler coast waters and increasingly westerly winds. Heavy rain from tropical cyclones are possible, however. Thunderstorms are an occasional concern with the state averaging anywhere from 30-50 days of thunderstorm activity annually, but the highest area of occurrence is towards the west.
