Wintergreen
is an unincorporated community located in Nelson County in central Virginia. It is most well known for being home to Wintergreen ski resort. Located in the heart of central Virginia, Wintergreen is approximately three hours from Washington D.C. The resort covers 11,000 acres on the eastern slopes of the Blue Ridge Mountains, offering spectacular mountain views and outstanding recreational opportunities. Condominiums and vacation homes surround the winding trails, cascading streams and lush forests of Wintergreen. It's the ultimate four-season resort and offers wintertime skiing, snowboarding and tubing, 45 holes of championship golf on two courses, swimming, fly fishing, hiking, tennis and more. Wintergreen also provides activities for children, spa facilities and is an ideal location for meetings and conferences. The resort features 40,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor function space, audiovisual services, an award-winning banquet department and experienced conference service professionals to help coordinate your event. Wintergreen is also near Lake Monocan Park, a 20-acre lake and park located at Stoney Creek. The park has a lifeguard on duty and offers paddleboats, canoes, kayaks, fishing equipment and road bike rentals.

Central Virginia ranges in elevation from 420 feet to 4200 feet above sea level. The four-season climate in this region is classified as humid continental, but few states have a more diverse climate than that of Virginia. In the mountainous regions of central Virginia, summer temperatures are significantly lower than the region's major metropolitan areas. It is not uncommon to experience temperatures twelve to fifteen degrees lower than Charlottesville and more than 18 degrees lower than experienced on the same day in Richmond, Washington D.C. and Raleigh/Durham. These same patterns also bring enough snow in winter to rank the area as one of the finest ski destinations in the Mid-Atlantic region.
